The Mazda Pro8 New Zealand and Australian RX8 Cup Series are excited to announce the continuation of the ‘Trans Tasman Drive Prize’ in 2025 which will see the two categories championship winners win a free race overseas ‘Trans Tasman’ style. This is a fantastic opportunity for all drivers in both well established RX8 series to reach the goal of winning a championship and travel overseas to compete in the sister series.

Ash McConchie from the Pro8 NZ Series and owner of RX8 Cup Ric Shaw teamed up with this exciting plan last year which saw the 2024 Pro8 Champion Jared Pyke and RX8 Cup Champion Robert Scott complete trips across the Tasman to race in each series. Ric Shaw explained “I am very excited to continue this international partnership with the Pro8 Series. Last year was a success and we want to continue to promote the drivers in both series to cross the Tasman and compete in each others championships”. Both countries have lease cars available for any drivers who would like an opportunity to race overseas.

With only two rounds remaining in the 2025 Mazda Pro8 Series the champion will be crowned at the end of March and will travel over to compete at Sydney Motorsport Park in August. “Ash McConchie said “ Our plan is simple, to aid the drivers in experiencing as much RX8 racing at as many tracks as possible and with the ease of international team support”. Having a prize of this calibre gives the drivers something to fight for over the duration of the season. We have not seen an award like this anywhere else in Australia or New Zealand!

The 2025 RX8 Cup Series kicks off at the famous Phillip Island March 1/2 and round 4 of the Pro8 NZ series continues at Highlands on the same weekend!
