Welcoming TCR Australia Star and Erebus Academy driver Bailey Sweeny to race with the Maisie Place Motorsport team at round 2 of the championship at Winton.

The 21 year old from Bateman’s Bay rocketed up the ranks following a stellar junior career in go kart racing winning multiple championship titles. This led to Bailey being selected as a member of the Erebus Motorsport Academy which saw him step into Toyota 86 racing collecting numerous podium finishes in his rookie season.

In 2022 Sweeny made his debut in the TCR Australia Series for HMO Customer Racing as part of the Hyundai backed Junior driver program. In his first TCR season, Bailey finished fifth in the championship and won rookie of the year. 2023 was another massive year for the Hyundai backed I30N driver leading the championship throughout the season and taking the title fight to the final round at Bathurst. A mechanical failure would unfortunately cost Sweeny the title seeing him finish 2nd in the championship. Bailey is currently exploring his options for 2024 but great news is he will now be eligible for a Supercars co drive and aims to score a seat for the 2024 enduro season.

The RX8 Cup family is proud to welcome another star driver to the series and we wish Bailey all the best at Winton!

Round 2 of the RX8 Cup Series at Winton Raceway takes place on the 26-28th April!
