The RX8 Cup Series is excited to welcome back Australian Motorsport Hall of Famer John Bowe to compete in round 5 of the championship at Sydney Motorsport Park. John Bowe (JB) is the only driver in Australian motor sport history to win nine national championships in four different categories over a career spanning almost 50 years. The Australian motorsport legend has won the Australian Drivers’ Championship during the Formula Mondial era twice and secured an Australian Sports Car Championship, before winning the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1995. Bowe has achieved a record 225 V8 Supercar race starts winning the Bathurst 1000 (1989/1994) and the 12 Hour Production Race (1995/2010). 2024 has seen Bowe join the Randall Racing Team who run two G82 M4 BMWs in the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series. JB currently sits 2nd overall in the AM Cup standings with just two rounds to go.
John is no stranger to racing Mazda rotaries as he was part of the factory Mazda racing team which ran the RX7s back in the Bathurst 12 hour days. After some great results in his debut meeting back in 2022 where John qualified on the front row, JB will return piloting the 2x championship winning Ric Shaw Racing RX8 Cup car.
The six time touring car masters champion said “I’m really looking forward to jumping back in the RX8 Cup Series. My good friend Ric Shaw runs such a brilliant series and has invited me to drive again! Last time I raced the mighty Mazda I had some great battles with many of the drivers. I really enjoyed the category and the racing immensely! As I’ve said many times, I race for fun nowdays and there is no better category than RX8 Cup! See you there”
The RX8 Cup is excited to announce that there will be FREE ENTRY for all spectators at the next event. Come check out the action at Sydney Motorsport Park September 27-29.
