Former race winning driver and familiar face to the category Luke Webber returns to the grid this weekend for round 3 at Sydney Motorsport Park! Webber who currently races in the 2025 V8 Superutes Series joins the RX8 Cup grid piloting the #8 Ric Shaw Racing car for 4 action packed races under lights.
The man from Cootamundra competed in the 2022 & 2023 RX8 Cup Championship driving the #26 Southern Cross Mechanics RX8 Cup car, quickly becoming a regular front runner and managing to clean sweep a round at SMP back in 2023 winning all four races. With a pole position, 4 race wins and 17 podium finishes to his name Luke was 2nd in the 2023 RX8 Cup Championship.
2024 saw Webber move up the ranks swapping the rotary for V8 power driving a Mazda BT50 in the Super Ute Series. “I’ve been really loving the utes there loud loose and raw. They have great exposure for sponsors with all the stand out tracks on the calendar. I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of an RX8 where circuit racing started for me. It will be a big adjustment from the Ute, I’m interested to see how long it takes to get back in the groove. I’m also looking forward to catching up with a lot of mates from the category” explained Webber.
Luke will join a fantastic 19 car field this weekend at what is set to be another action packed weekend of Mazda Rotary racing. Free entry for all spectators at Sydney Motorsport Park this Saturday the 21st of June!!
