The RX8 Cup Series headed north to Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland for Round 6 and the finale of the 2025 championship. A fantastic field of 18 cars hit the track Saturday morning for qualifying in dry conditions. Stiaan Kriel claimed his sixth straight Revolution Racegear Pole Position for the year setting a time of a 1:27.6. Ashton Cattach did everything he could to spoil Kriel’s run but was only 0.097 off the South Africans time. Tyler Collins and Jack Childs qualified on the second row with reigning champ Robert Scott 5th.

Kriel started the weekend off in style leading from lights to flag in race 1 but not without heavy challenge behind from Cattach and Collins. Only 2 tenths would seperate the two across the line Cattach home for 2nd and Collins 3rd. Jack Childs had a solid drive to finish 4th in front of Rob Scott.

Race 2 on Saturday afternoon would follow a heavy hail storm that lashed the circuit. The race would start under wet conditions testing the drivers on the Nankang AR1s. Kriel showed his class in the wet winning by five seconds over Ashton Cattach and Jack Childs with his first podium of the weekend. In her solo debut Robyn Kriel finished an impressive 4th with Jackson Noakes rounding out the top 5. It was an action packed midfield battle in the wet with multiple drivers swapping positions throughout the race. The local debutant Paul Spiteri had a mega drive in the slippery conditions to finish 6th followed by Aaron Hills and Tom Donohue.

Stiaan Kriel would lead the pack away in race 3 looking to seal the championship title. Ashton Cattach was looking to spoil the party but suffered a gearbox issue with only a couple of laps to go dropping the Victorian back to fifth. Kriel took his third victory of the weekend and secured the 2025 RX8 Cup Championship. Jack Childs in 2nd place with his personal best finish in the series. Robyn Kriel rounded out the podium with her highest finished followed by Tyler Collins who started from the rear of the field after being DSQ in race 2. Cattach held onto 5th with the gearbox issue and Tom Donohue in 6th.

The final race of the weekend never seems to be short of action with the safety car brought out for the first time after Jake Lougher’s engine expired. The restart brought the field back together with some fierce battles throughout the pack. Collins made up two spots and was looking to challenge Stiaan for the win. Jackson Noakes and Grant Bray were in a tussle for position when drama struck under the bridge with Noakes unfortunately finding the wall. The race would finish a lap short with Stiaan Kriel taking the round clean sweep ahead of Collins and Cattach. Jack Childs and Robyn Kriel finished their consistent weekends in 4th and 5th.

Round 6 at Morgan Park was a fantastic finish to the 2025 season with some quality racing on show! Congratulations to Stiaan Kriel for taking out the round win with 4 from 4 race victories and was also crowned the 2025 RX8 Cup Champion. Ashton Cattach finished 2nd for the weekend ahead of Jack Childs with back to back podiums. The VSP Security Wholesale ‘Trans Tasman Drive Prize’ Champion Stiaan Kriel will make his way over to New Zealand to compete in the Mazda Pro8 Championship next year.
